ANTONIO RIZZI-ZANNONI in four imperial sheets with the addition of localities and postal roads.

"Rest assured that until today, such a beautiful and precise map of Italy has never been seen": this is how the proclamation by the Florentine bookseller Giuseppe Molini closed on May 22, 1802, announcing the publication of a beautiful and precise depiction of Italy. Indeed, a map of Italy capable of reaching such heights of refinement and elegance has never been printed. The map we offer on this page is a development based on a representation of Italy published four years earlier by Molini, to which roads and post offices have been added. This map of Italy, as the title states, was printed from the design of the famous geographer Giovanni Antonio Bartolomeo Rizzi Zannoni, who throughout his career placed his science at the service of the greatest European enterprises. The cartographic design used is the famous Cassini design, which took Paris as the starting point of the meridian. The orography is rendered in perspective with grazing light shading. There are eight drawing scales in the ancient units of measurement used in Italy, France, Germany, and the various Italian states. Of particular value is the cartouche in the bottom right, which gives the design a pleasing artistic appearance.

Antonio Rizzi Zannoni’s is an important map of Italy, starting with its dimensions: it is a finely drawn canvas measuring 100 x 130 cm. This reproduction, like the original, is mounted on canvas "in sections," thus printing 16 different sheets individually to be applied to a single canvas, to allow for its folding and preservation. Everything was created using the same technique as Molini, and therefore through the use of a manual press equipped with carefully engraved plates. As one can imagine, these reproductions themselves are unique collector's items: given the particular printing method, in fact, no two copies are the same. The paper, 100% pure cotton and of excellent weight, has been treated with special vegetable substances to allow for an aging process equal to that of the original. The backing canvas, also made of the same material, undergoes the same treatment to recover in every detail the historical and cultural value of this extraordinary work.

*** Our canvases are printed with a manual press and are produced only upon request. It takes about 10 days for the Black and White version and about 20 days for the Hand-painted one.

Attention: the canvases are delivered unframed.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1023/0808/6137/files/Italia_di_Antonio_Rizzi_-_Zannoni_01.webp?v=1790081161
