The subject of the depiction is the 67 constellations in use during the seventeenth century, as this work was published in 1687. Specifically, one can identify the 48 Ptolemaic constellations, to which are added, among others, the 12 constellations of the southern hemisphere introduced by Keyser and Houtman. To conceive this design, Brunacci started from Bayer's Uranometria of 1603, subsequently incorporating later studies.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eA seventeenth-century description of the celestial globe.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eTwo celestial globes, the Arctic and the Antarctic, accompanied by a series of cartouches containing the information necessary to best interpret the print. Adding further elegance to the work is the classic depiction of putti above the clouds and, departing from the custom of accompanying planispheres with allegorical images, the representation of astronomers at work. This extremely faithful reproduction is composed of 8 individual sheets which, as in the original, have been mounted on canvas to facilitate transport and preservation. Both the paper and the canvas are 100% pure cotton. A manual printing press was used, to provide the collector with the fascinating tactile sensation that only engravings can offer.
