This perspective view from the period shows an already modern metropolis which, while unable to boast the monumental appearance of other great European capitals like Vienna and Paris, still manages to impress the traveler. The English capital certainly left a deep impression on the artist Bernhard Werner, who decided to further emphasize the grandeur of its iconic buildings, which rise proudly amidst the austere and typically understated London houses. The River Thames dominates this fresco of exceptional quality, not to mention St Paul's Cathedral, consecrated in 1697, which gives the entire city a Baroque appearance. The number of notable buildings listed in the dual English and German legend is impressive: a total of 70 entries.

Eighteenth-century London in a perspective view by Probst

In the rich series of perspective views printed in the eighteenth century by the Bavarian publishers Probst, what was then the center of the world could certainly not be missing. Like all other prints of this type produced by the renowned Augsburg printing house, the London one was also constructed from multiple sheets, subsequently mounted "in sections" on the backing canvas. In this reproduction, this detail has also been respected and recreated, thanks to meticulous printing with a manual press, using expertly engraved copper plates. As collectors will immediately notice, this particular process gives the print the characteristic "groove" of the engraving, which is perfectly perceptible to the touch. It is therefore a high-value artisanal work, capable of enriching any collection and decorating the most elegant interiors. Both the paper and the canvas are 100% pure cotton.

*** Our canvases are printed using a manual press and are produced only upon request. It takes approximately 10 days for the Black and White version and approximately 20 days for the Hand-Painted one.

Please note: the canvases are delivered unframed.
